Our Work

Mental health is health, and yours deserves professional care. Each of us has the capacity within ourselves to heal the pain from present or past experiences. Talk therapy allows a client the freedom to be heard, non-judgmentally, positively, encouragingly, as they work at their own speed, in ways that suit them, to bring about the best healing processes, activities, and goals for themselves.

Here, we don’t just “treat” clients. We walk with you through times of distress and struggle. We offer a holistic approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, structured problem solving, and unconditional positive regard, all the while empowering you to find and realize your own solutions. No matter who you are, what you’re facing, or where you’re coming from, we can help you find practical, achievable and sustainable solutions that are just right, just for you.

What can counseling do for you?

  • It enables you to be and grow into your best self.
  • It gives you an instant support network of personal advocates.
  • It improves your relationships with everyone around you and with yourself.
  • It lets you see the world through a new perspective.
  • It can help you live in the moment, not lament the past, and not have anxiety about the future.
  • It can change your whole life, for the better.

About Carol Anne

With a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, Carol Anne acquired ownership of May Day Counseling in 2023. She is licensed in Hawai’i, Florida, North Carolina, and Guam. She is also fluent in Spanish.

After 18 years of working with thousands of people in moments of distress, particularly in hospital and hospice settings, Carol Anne has learned that most issues are based in some combination of grief, anxiety, and depression. As a result, helping clients navigate those experiences with grace has been her core focus and specialty.

When not working with clients or out enjoying the beauty of Hawai’i, Carol Anne enjoys watching Star Trek, singing along with musical theater, and loving on her beloved kitten, Nalani (“Calm Skies”).

How do I get started?

All it takes to get started is a quick email or call. From there, we’ll set up a no-cost, no-obligation, 15-minute phone call. I’ll ask a few questions about what you’re looking for, you’ll ask any questions you have about the process, and we’ll determine if I’m the right person to meet your needs. If so, I’ll walk you through the next steps on your healing journey, and we’ll schedule our first full session at your convenience.

Do you accept my insurance?

Probably! We accept a wide range of insurances, and we also offer low-cost options for people without insurance or whose insurance doesn’t cover all their mental health needs. We’ll discuss this as part of our 15-minute setup call. I strongly believe cost should never be the barrier to getting the care you need, so I’ll work with you to find a workable solution.

How do we meet? What are your hours?

May Day Counseling is 100% online, specializing in telehealth visits that are easy to fit into your life and schedule. No technical expertise is required; I’ll send you a link to a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that we’ll use for our sessions. Unlike many counseling services, we are also available evenings and weekends upon request.

Are our sessions confidential?

Ninety-nine percent of the content of our sessions are strictly confidential. You can speak without fear of us sharing the information with anyone. However, under the law we are also mandated reporters when it comes to specific types of issues like child abuse that is currently happening. If you have specific concerns or questions, feel free to ask in our 15-minute setup call.

Testimonials

Every time I talk to Carol Anne, I always end the conversation feeling lighter and more unburdened. In fact, that may be one of the best things: it never feels like a “session” or an “appointment” with her, but just a good conversation that always leaves me in a better place than I started.
